Preparation tips
Fruit: You can use fresh or frozen fruit, but using frozen fruit will ensure that the smoothie has a nice, icy “slush” consistency.
If your fruits are not frozen, you can add a few ice cubes (2 or 3 per serving) to replicate this consistency.
And there’s nothing to stop you from cutting up your fresh fruits and freezing them in portions in a small airtight bags or containers. This way you will always have perfect, frozen fruits on hand.
Banana: this fruit makes the smoothie thicker and creamier. And it’s perfect if you have overripe bananas, jus cut them into pieces and freeze them until the next smoothie.
Other interestingfruits to use: nectarine, pineapple, honeydew melon or kiwi.
Pineapple juice: we use pineapple juice, but you could also use 100% pure orange juice.
Green vegetables: use spinach or kale leaves.
Chia seeds: For an even more nourishing smoothie, I like to add 1 Tbsp of chia seeds in my smoothie. Since these seeds are a good source of fiber, omega-3, omega-6, iron and calcium, it gives this smoothie an extra nutritional boost.
