We tested the sushis at Sushi Yu Mi in Westmount. Here’s what we thought.
Located in a half-basement, with a rather discreet entrance and sober decor, it’s easy to walk past Sushi Yu Mi without stopping.
Although the restaurant’s few tables are often busy, the emphasis here is on take out.

During our visit, we tried some of the house specialties, including numaki fish, a maki wrapped in rice paper and containing vermicelli, tempura fish, chives, radish and cucumber.
The sushis, prepared when you order, stand out for their freshness and originality. The rolls are light, delicious and bursting with flavor.
Among the other makis we tried were the salmon and crab, a mixture of crab and salmon with Yu Mi sauce, the Opera roll, with more crab but also chives and spicy sauce, and the shrimp tempura.
Tempura sushi, crispy tempura flakes mixed with fish and Yu Mi sauce, also stood out.
The crab and caviar roll, a roll made from soft-shell crab, and the sake extrava, which in addition to salmon contains asparagus and enoki mushrooms, were particularly popular around the table. Different and delicious!
Price: Excellent value for money. For 2 good forks, you can easily get away with $60 taxes included (in 2014).
